Thus I am like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth is no response.


He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.


When He was accused by the chief priests and elders, He gave no answer.


Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “You have said so.”


So Pilate asked Him again, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You.”


But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate was astonished.


From then on, Pilate tried to release Him. But the Jews cried out, “If you release this Man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar!”
