I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”


Come now, let us kill him and throw him into some pit, and we will say, ‘Some evil beast has devoured him.’ Then we will see what will become of his dreams.”


Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to the despised one, to the one whom the nation abhors, to the servant of rulers: “Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord who is faithful and the Holy One of Israel who has chosen you.”


Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was utterly furious and sent forth and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and the surrounding region, from two years old and under, based on the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.


When the season of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers to receive his fruit.


Then they tried to seize Him, but feared the people, for they knew that He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went their way.


“Having yet his one well-beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, ‘They will revere my son.’


So they took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.


You have taken Him, who was handed over to you by the ordained counsel and foreknowledge of God, and by lawless hands have crucified and killed Him,


saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? Yet now you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring on us this Man’s blood.”


Which of the prophets have your fathers not persecuted? They have even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers,


has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the ages.
