to turn aside the needy from justice and to take away the right from the poor of My people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!


In you they have treated father and mother with contempt. In your midst they have dealt with the stranger by oppression. In you they have vexed the fatherless and the widow.


They come to you as people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them. They do the lustful desires in their mouth, and their heart goes after their covetousness.


They trample the head of the poor into the dust of the earth, and push the oppressed out of the way. A man and his father go in to the same woman, profaning My holy name.


They covet fields and seize them, and houses and take them. They defraud a man of his house, and a fellow man of his inheritance.


But lately My people rise up like an enemy. You strip off the rich robe from those who pass by trustingly, like men returning from war.


You who hate good and love evil, who tear the skin from My people and the flesh from their bones;


“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven against men. For you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who are entering to go in.


Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You devour widows’ houses and for pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive the greater condemnation.

They profess that they know God, but in their deeds they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and worthless for every good work.


My brothers, not many of you should become teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater judgment.
