from men by Your hand, O  Lord, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their belly with Your treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants.


Look at the birds of the air, for they do not sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?


He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have no room to store my crops?’


And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take rest. Eat, drink, and be merry.’


“So is he who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”


Consider the ravens: They neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouses nor barns. Yet God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds?


“He would not for a while. Yet afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I do not fear God or respect man,


And the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge says.


This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, and devilish.


Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into this city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit,”


Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”
