“Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O you my friends, for the hand of God has struck me!


My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass.


You who have shown me many troubles and distresses will revive me again, and will bring me up again from the depths of the earth.


Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and You have afflicted me with all Your waves.    Selah


He was despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from him; he was despised, and we did not esteem him.


Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the cistern of Malkijah the son of Hammelech that was in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with cords. And in the cistern there was no water, only mud, so Jeremiah sank in the mud.


even men, and women, and children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.


For the brokenness of the daughter of my people am I broken; I mourn; dismay has taken hold of me.
