My brothers have acted deceitfully like a riverbed, like the streams of the riverbeds that run dry;


so I have been assigned months of futility, and nights of trouble have been appointed to me.


Those who sow in tears shall reap with joy.


I have become a reproach among all my enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me outside flee from me.


I am weary with my groaning; all night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping.


They also gave me poison in my food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.


All the brothers of the poor hate him; how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with words, yet they abandon him.


But if you will not listen to it, my soul will weep in secret places for your pride; and my eyes will weep sorely and run down with tears, because the flock of the Lord is carried away captive.


Withhold your foot from being unshod and your throat from thirst. But you said, “There is no hope. No! For I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.”


If a man divorces his wife, and she goes from him and becomes another man’s, shall he return to her again? Shall not that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to Me, says the Lord.


All your lovers have forgotten you; they do not seek you; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, because of the multitude of your iniquities, because your sins are numerous.


When you are devastated, what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with crimson, though you deck yourself with ornaments of gold, though you enlarge your eyes with paint, in vain you will make yourself fair. Your lovers will despise you; they will seek your life.


Oh, that my head were waters and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!


I called for my lovers, but they deceived me; my priests and my elders perished in the city, while they sought food to restore their strength.


They have heard my groaning, yet there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that You have done it. Bring the day that You have announced, that they become like me.


Her uncleanness is in her skirts; she took no thought of her future; therefore her fall is astounding; she has no comforter. “O  Lord, look upon my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed!”


My eyes fail with tears, my spirit is greatly troubled; my bile is poured on the ground because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the children and infants faint in the streets of the city.


therefore I will gather all your lovers with whom you have taken pleasure and all those whom you have loved with all those whom you have hated. I will even gather them from all around against you and will reveal your nakedness to them so that they may see all your nakedness.


She will pursue her lovers, but she will not reach them; and she will seek them but will not find them. Then she will say, “I will go and return to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now.”


Do not trust in a companion, do not rely on a friend; from her who lies in your embrace, guard the doors of your mouth.


These are of one mind and will give their power and authority to the beast.


These ten horns and the beast which you saw will hate the prostitute; they will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh, and burn her with fire.
