The king got up in the night and said to his servants, “I will show you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are starving, so they left the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we will capture them alive and get into the city.’ ”


So Jeroboam went around them with an ambush to come from behind them. Those from Israel were in front of Judah, while the ambush was behind them.


Wisdom gives the wise person more strength than ten rulers who are in the city.


So I said, “Wisdom is better than strength; yet the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heard.”

The Benjamites saw that they were defeated. Now the men of Israel had withdrawn from Benjamin, because they relied on the men in ambush whom they had set against Gibeah.


The leaders of Shechem set ambushes against him on the hilltops and robbed all who passed by them on the road. This was told to Abimelech.


So now, get up at night, you and the people with you, and lie in wait in the field.
