Joshua 7:12 - Modern English Version

12 Therefore the Israelites cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs to their enemies because they have become dedicated for destruction. I will not be with you anymore if you do not destroy the things dedicated for destruction in your midst.

You make us turn back from the enemy, and those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves.


Have You not rejected us, O God? And will You not go forth with our armies, O God?


The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.


But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear.


When this people or the prophet or a priest asks you, saying, “What is the oracle of the Lord?” you shall then say to them, “What oracle? I will forsake you, says the Lord.”


Be instructed, O Jerusalem, lest My soul depart from you; lest I make you desolate, a land not inhabited.


Though they bring up their children, I will bereave them until none are left. Woe to them indeed, when I depart from them!


Your eyes are too pure to look on evil, and You cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, and hold Your tongue when the wicked devours the man who is more righteous than he?


Moses spoke these words to all the Israelites, and the people mourned greatly.


Do not go up, for the Lord is not among you; do not let yourselves be defeated by your enemies.


For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you will fall by the sword because you are turned from the Lord, and the Lord will not be with you.”


Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt on that mountain went down and defeated them, pursuing them as far as Hormah.


You shall not bring an abomination into your house, lest you become cursed like it, but you must absolutely detest and abhor it, for it is a cursed thing.


As for you, keep yourselves from that which is dedicated for destruction, lest you be destroyed. If you take from that which is dedicated for destruction, you will set the Israelite camp for destruction and bring trouble upon it.


She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson.” Then he awakened from his sleep and thought, “I will go out as before and shake myself free of them.” He did not know that the Lord had left him.


The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands of those who plundered them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they were no longer able to stand against their enemies.


When the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the Israelites, the people raised their voices and wept aloud.


Saul said, “Come here, all you leaders of the people, and observe and see how this sin has come about this day.
