Speak to the Israelites, saying: When a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of the Lord that should not be done, and he violates one of them,


The cities will be for you a refuge from the avenger, so that the manslayer does not die until he stands trial before the assembly.


The avenger of blood himself will slay the murderer. When he meets him, he will slay him.


But if he pushed him suddenly without hatred, or threw anything at him without lying in wait,


So that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.


“Say to the Israelites, ‘Choose refuge cities, as I told you through Moses,


“ ‘The refugee can flee to one of these cities then stand at the entrance of the city gate and tell his case to the city elders. They will take him into the city and give him a place to stay, and he will live with them.
