On seeing the angel who was striking down the people, David said to the Lord, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly. These sheep, what have they done? Please, let your hand be against me and against the house of my father.”


David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the command to number the people? I am the one who has sinned and surely done evil. But these sheep, what have they done? O  Lord my God, I pray, let Your hand be against me and my father’s house, but do not let Your people be plagued.”


Your wickedness may hurt a man like you, and your righteousness may profit a son of man.


Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much that is good.


Then they said to Jonah, “What shall we do to you, so that the sea may quiet down for us?” For the sea was growing stormier.


Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to bring the ship to land, but they could not do it, for the sea grew more tempestuous against them.


nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, that the whole nation should not perish.”


saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has given you all those who sail with you.’


Therefore the Israelites cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs to their enemies because they have become dedicated for destruction. I will not be with you anymore if you do not destroy the things dedicated for destruction in your midst.
