Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorn of those who are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.


But I am a worm, and not human; a reproach of men and despised by the people.


Let the lying lips be put to silence, which speak insolently with pride and contempt against the righteous.


Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”


Many of them said, “He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?”


The people answered, “You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?”


The Jews said among themselves, “Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him? Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?


The Jews answered Him, “Do we not rightly say that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?”


Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham and the prophets died, and You say, ‘If a man keeps My word, he shall never taste death.’


For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and your hearts give up.


Therefore let us go forth to Him outside the camp, bearing the reproach that He bore.
