26 They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you bore witness, look, He is baptizing, and everyone is going to Him.”

O You who hear prayer, to You shall all flesh come.


Then I observed that all labor and skill of work come one person’s envy of another. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.


I have sworn by Myself, the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath.


and greetings in the marketplaces, and being called ‘Rabbi’ by men.


“But do not be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brothers.


John bore witness of Him and cried out, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ”


This man came as a witness in order to testify concerning the Light, that all men through Him might believe.


The true Light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.


If we leave Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”


So the Pharisees said among themselves, “See, you are gaining nothing! Look, the world has followed Him!”


He came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”


Now when the Lord learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John


(though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples),


Meanwhile His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”


“You sent to John, and he bore witness of the truth.
