because they have forsaken Me and have worshipped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Chemosh, the god of the Moabites, and Molech, the god of the Ammonites and have not walked in My ways and have not done that which is right in My eyes, to keep My statutes and judgments, as his father David had done.


Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is close to Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the Ammonites.


Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after lies.


“Behold, the man who did not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and sought refuge in his wickedness.”


This is your lot, the portion of your measures from Me, says the Lord, because you have forgotten Me and trusted in falsehood.


I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt and he shall burn them and carry them away captives. And he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment, and he shall depart from there in peace.


Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.


Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh have perished; for your sons have been taken away captive and your daughters into captivity.


Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai has been devastated! Cry out, O daughters of Rabbah, gird yourselves with sackcloth and lament, and run to and fro inside the walls; for their king shall go into captivity, and his priests and his officials together.


Why do you glory in the valleys, your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter who trusts in her treasures, saying, “Who shall come against me?”


Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, and let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;


You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity, and you have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your power and in the numbers of your warriors,


Woe to you, Moab! You have perished, O people of Chemosh! He has made his sons fugitives, and his daughters captives, to Sihon king of the Amorites.


Command those who are rich in this world that they not be conceited, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who richly gives us all things to enjoy.


To the extent that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, so give her torment and sorrow; for in her heart she says, ‘I sit as a queen, and am no widow, and will see no sorrow.’


Will you not take possession of whatever Chemosh your god gives you? So everything that the Lord our God possesses before us, we will take possession of it.
