5 But you will die in peace; and as spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so they burn spices for you. And they will lament for you, saying, “Alas, lord!” For I have pronounced the word, says the Lord.

Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I am about to bring upon this place.” Then they brought the king a report.


And they buried him in the tomb that he cut for himself in the City of David. And they laid him on a bier that had been filled with all types of spices mixed with ointments, and they made a very great fire in his honor.


Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be brought to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not see all the disaster that I am bringing on this place and on those who dwell here.” So they returned this word to the king.


Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: They will not lament for him, saying, “Ah, my brother!” or, “Ah, sister!” They will not lament for him, saying, “Ah, lord!” or, “Ah, his glory!”


Yet hear the word of the Lord, O Zedekiah king of Judah! Thus says the Lord concerning you: You will not die by the sword.


The breath of our life, the anointed king of the Lord, was captured in their traps, of whom we said, “Under his shadow we shall live among the nations.”


As I live, says the Lord God, surely in the country of the king who made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke, in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
