But draw near to here, you sons of a sorceress, offspring of an adulterer and prostitute.


Among the smooth stones of the stream is your portion; they are your lot. Even to them you have poured out a drink offering; you have offered a grain offering. Should I relent concerning these things?


But they are altogether unthinking and foolish; the wooden idol is worthless instruction.


First I will doubly recompense their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable things.


say to a tree, “You are my father.” And to a stone, “You gave birth to me.” For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face. But in the time of their trouble they will say, “Arise and save us.”


And I brought you into a plentiful country to eat its fruit and its goodness. But when you entered, you defiled My land and made My inheritance an abomination.


Lift up your eyes to the high places, and see! Where have you not been ravished? In the roads you have sat for them as the Arabian in the wilderness. And you have polluted the land with your harlotry and with your wickedness.


You have also taken your fair jewels made of My gold and My silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men that you might commit harlotry with them.


They uncovered her nakedness. They took her sons and her daughters and killed her with the sword. And she became a byword among women, for they had executed judgments on her.


Thus you longed for the lewdness of your youth when the Egyptians handled your bosom because of the breasts of your youth.


And they committed harlotries in Egypt. They committed harlotries in their youth. There their breasts were pressed, and there their virgin bosom was handled.


Plead with your mother, plead— for she is not My wife, and am I not her husband — that she put away her harlotry from her face, and her adultery from between her breasts,


My people seek counsel from their wood, and their staff informs them. For the spirit of harlotry has led them astray, and they have played the whore in defiance of their God.


To You, O  Lord, I call, because fire has devoured the wild pastures, and flame has burned all the trees of the field.


Woe to him who says to the wood, “Awake!” To the silent stone, “Arise!” Can it teach? It is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it.


But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual unfaithfulness, causes her to commit adultery. And whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.
