In the thirty-ninth year of the reign of Asa, he had a sickness in his feet until his sickness became grave. Even in his disease he did not seek after the Lord, but the physicians.


With this king is a strong arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God who will help us and fight our battles.” So the people leaned on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.


For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.


Surely men of low degree are but a vapor; men of high degree are a lie; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than vapor.


Cease regarding man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for why should he be esteemed?


Then they shall be dismayed and ashamed of Cush their hope and Egypt their boast.


Behold, you trust in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.


Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him that there was no justice.


And say you to them, Thus says the Lord God of Israel: Cursed is the man who does not obey the words of this covenant,


Those of you who escape shall remember Me among the nations wherever they shall be carried captive, because I am broken by their whorish heart which has departed from Me, and with their eyes which play the harlot after their idols. And they shall loathe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.


When the Lord first spoke by Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea: “Go, take for yourself a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry, for the land has committed great harlotry, departing from the Lord.”
