So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place, for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.


The word of the Lord came also to me, saying:


For thus says the Lord concerning the sons and concerning the daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them, and concerning their fathers who brought them in this land:


Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters; so that you may increase there and not diminish.


You have invited as to a feast day the terrors all around; in the day of the Lord’s anger no one escaped or survived; those whom I held and raised my enemy destroyed.


Woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse in those days!


But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who nurse in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people.


For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, who never bore and never nursed!’
