The Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men, to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God.


A brutish man does not know, nor does a fool understand this:


Understand, you brutish among the people! Fools, when will you be wise?


Let all who serve graven images be put to shame, who boast of idols; worship Him, all you gods.


Surely I am more stupid than any man, and do not have the understanding of a man.


They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, who trust in graven images, who say to the molded images, “You are our gods.”


Behold, all his companions shall be ashamed; and the workmen, they are mere men. Let them all be gathered together; let them stand up, yet they shall fear; they shall be ashamed together.


They shall be ashamed and also humiliated, all of them; the craftsmen of idols shall go away in confusion together,


I will declare your righteousness, and your works, yet they shall not profit you.


They are as a scarecrow in a cucumber field, but do not speak; they must be carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, nor can they do good.


But they are altogether unthinking and foolish; the wooden idol is worthless instruction.


They turned the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.


When they arose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord, and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold. Only the torso of Dagon was left to him.
