God said to him, “Because you have asked this and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the lives of your enemies, but have asked for yourself wisdom to discern what is right,


There they cry out, but He does not answer because of the pride of evil men.


They cried for help, but there was no one to save them; they cried to the Lord, but He did not answer them.


“Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me,


The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.


He who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he also will cry out, but will not be heard.


The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with evil intent!


Therefore thus says the Lord, behold, I will bring calamity upon them which they will not be able to escape. And though they cry to Me, I will not listen to them.


Therefore do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them. For I will not hear them in the time that they cry to Me because of their trouble.


When they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when they offer a burnt offering and a grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.


Then they will cry out to the Lord, but He will not answer them; He will hide His face from them at that time, because they have wrought evil deeds.


Therefore it happened that as I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear, says the Lord of Hosts.


But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink from the cup that I am to drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to Him, “We are able.”


But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”


For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.


“Not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together, and journeyed to a distant country, and there squandered his possessions in prodigal living.


But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed the fattened calf for him.’


Where do wars and fights among you come from? Do they not come from your lusts that war in your body?


And whatever we ask, we will receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.


This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
