James 4:11 - Modern English Version

11 Do not speak evil of one another, brothers. He who speaks evil of his brother and judges his brother speaks evil of the law and judges the law. If you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Let not a slanderer be established in the land; let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him.


“Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven.


Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judges, for when you judge another, you condemn yourself, for you who judge do the same things.


for the hearers of the law are not justified before God, but the doers of the law will be justified.


What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid! But I did not know sin, except through the law. I would not have known coveting if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”


Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time until the Lord comes. He will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will reveal the purposes of the hearts. Then everyone will have commendation from God.


For I fear that when I come, I shall not find you such as I wish, and that I shall be found by you such as you do not wish. I fear there are debates, envying, wrath, strife, backbiting, whispering, arrogance, and disorder.


Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outbursts, and blasphemies, with all malice, be taken away from you.


Likewise, the women must be honorable, not slanderers, sober, and faithful in all things.

Likewise, older women should be reverent in behavior, and not be false accusers, not be enslaved to much wine, but teachers of good things,


Do not be led astray, my beloved brothers.


Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger,


But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in his deeds.


If you fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.


My brothers, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.


Therefore be patient, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Notice how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until he receives the early and late rain.


Do not grumble against one another, brothers, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door.


Therefore put away all wickedness, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking.
