Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose up and destroyed all the royal descendants.


They tear apart my path, they promote my calamity; they have no helper.


A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, but he who hates ill-gotten gain will prolong his days.


Woe to you, O land, when your king is a lad, and your princes feast in the morning!


The Lord has mingled a perverse spirit in her; so they have caused Egypt to err in her every work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.


I will give youths to be their princes, and unweaned children shall rule over them.


Thus says your Lord, the Lord, and your God who pleads the cause of His people: Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of reeling, even the dregs of the cup of My fury; you will never drink it again.


The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and My people love to have it so. Yet what will you do in the end?


Thus says the Lord: Regarding the prophets who mislead My people — the ones who have something to eat proclaim “Peace,” but if one does not feed them, then they prepare for war against him.


Your troops are women in your midst! The gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire has devoured your bars.


Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch.”
