3 Therefore, my loins are filled with pain; pangs have taken hold of me as the pangs of a woman who travails. I am so perplexed at the hearing of it; I am so dismayed at the seeing of it.

Trembling took hold of them there, and pain, as of a woman in labor,


and they shall be afraid. Pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman who travails; they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.


My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee to Zoar, like a three-year-old heifer. For by the Ascent of Luhith they shall go up with weeping; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction,


Therefore my heart shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for Kir Hareseth.


Therefore I will weep bitterly for Jazer, the vine of Sibmah; I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh. For the shouting for your summer fruits and for your harvest has fallen away.


Like a woman with child, who is in pain and cries out in her pangs when she draws near the time of her delivery, so have we been in Your sight, O  Lord.


My soul, my soul! I am pained at my very heart. My heart makes a noise in me. I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.


Kerioth has been captured, and the strongholds have been seized, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab in that day will be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

In the morning you will say, “If only it were evening!” And at evening you will say, “If only it were morning!” because of the fear of your heart and because of the sights your eyes will see.


When they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.
