He also defeated Moab. He measured them with a length of rope, forcing them to lie down on the ground. He measured two lengths of rope to be put to death, but the entirety of one length he allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David, bearing tribute.


He struck ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt and captured Sela in battle. He called it Joktheel, as it is to this day.


Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-breeder and gave back to the king of Israel one hundred thousand lambs and the wool of one hundred thousand rams.


Diligently use this money to buy bulls, rams, lambs, with their grain offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them on the altar of the house of your God in Jerusalem.


Yet today he shall remain at Nob; he shakes his fist against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.


Let the wilderness and the cities lift up their voices, the villages that Kedar inhabits. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.


All the people of the land shall give this offering for the prince in Israel.


As for you, watchtower of the flock, citadel of the daughter of Zion, to you it will come, the former dominion will come, kingship for the daughter of Jerusalem.
