Then seven ears, thin and scorched by the east wind, sprang up after them.


His roots will be dried up beneath, and above his branch will dry up.


Scarcely shall they be planted; scarcely shall they be sown; scarcely shall their tree take root in the earth, when He will also blow on them, and they will wither, and the whirlwind will take them away as stubble.


Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust; because they have cast away the law of the Lord of Hosts and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.


Speak to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes and the delight of your soul. And your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind shall fall by the sword.


Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he eagerly followed after vanity.


For they sow the wind, and they will reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no head and will yield no flour. If it were to yield, foreigners would swallow it up.


Surely the day is coming, burning like an oven; all the proud, yes, all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming will burn them up, says the Lord of Hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.


The sword outside and terror within will destroy both the young man and the virgin, the infant along with the man of gray hair.
