Then Menahem struck Tiphsah and all who were in it, and the territories around Tirzah. Because they did not open up the city to him, he attacked it. Then he split open all its pregnant women.


If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword, and his offspring will not be satisfied with bread.


I will cast you out of My sight as I have cast out all your brothers, even the whole seed of Ephraim.


“For death has come up into our windows; and has entered our palaces, to cut off the children from the streets, and the young men from the squares.”


You have invited as to a feast day the terrors all around; in the day of the Lord’s anger no one escaped or survived; those whom I held and raised my enemy destroyed.


And say to Tyre who is situated at the entrance of the sea, who is a merchant of the peoples for many coastlands, Thus says the Lord God: O Tyre, you have said, “I am perfect in beauty.”


therefore a tumult will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be destroyed as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel in the day of battle; mothers were dashed to pieces upon their children.


Samaria will be held guilty, for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword, their infants will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women will be ripped open.


I will attack them like a bear bereaved of her cubs, and will tear open their rib cage. There I will devour them like a lion, as the wild beast would tear them to pieces.


Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.


Ephraim is stricken, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit. Even though they give birth, I will slay the beloved offspring of their womb.


“Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Your wife will be a prostitute in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be divided by measuring line; you yourself will die in an unclean land; and Israel will surely go into exile away from its land.’ ”
