“And now you think that you can withstand before the kingdom of the Lord by the hand of the sons of David. And you all are a great multitude, and with you are the golden calves that Jeroboam has made for you to be gods.


Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I will be upright, and I will be innocent of great transgression.


“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And how long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge.


Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you fugitives of the nations. They have no knowledge who set up the wood of their carved image, and pray to a god that cannot save.


I have seen your adulteries and your lustful neighings, the lewdness of your harlotry, and your abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you remain unclean?


O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?


Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.


The inhabitants of Samaria fear because of the calf of Beth-aven. For its people mourn for it, and its priests shriek for it, because its glory has departed from it.


The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. Thorn and thistle will grow on their altars. They will say to the mountains, Cover us, and to the hills, Fall on us.


And now they continue sinning and have made a cast image for themselves, idols of their silver, according to their understanding; all of them the work of craftsmen. They say of them, “Those who sacrifice are kissing calves!”


For it is from Israel; a craftsman made it, and it is not God! The calf of Samaria will be broken to pieces.


Those who swear by Ashimah of Samaria, and say, “By the life of your god, O Dan,” and, “By the life of the way of Beer-sheba” — they shall fall and never rise again.


All her idols will be shattered, and her gifts burned with fire, and I will annihilate her images, because she gathered them as the wages of a prostitute, and as the wages of a prostitute they will again be used.


So they made a calf in those days, and offered a sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands.


For a fire has been inflamed by My anger, and it will burn to the lowest part of Sheol, and shall consume the earth and its produce, and ignite the foundations of the mountains.
