But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion on them. He turned toward them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence.


So the Lord gave Israel a savior, so that they got out from under the hand of Aram. Then the Israelites dwelt in their tents as before.


“Behold, blessed is the man whom God corrects! Therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty,


who devise evil things in their hearts; continually do they stir up wars.


Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain?


How long will you assault a man? So you can murder all of you, like a leaning wall and a tottering fence.


Blessed is the man whom You discipline, O  Lord, and teach from Your law,


My son, despise not the discipline of the Lord or be weary of His correction,


The heart is more deceitful than all things and desperately wicked; who can understand it?


O Israel, you are destroyed, but in Me is your help.


Why do you all scheme against the Lord? He will bring it to an end. It will not rise up a second time.


and who by the mouth of Your servant David said: ‘Why did the nations rage, and the people devise vain things?


Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him or give thanks to Him as God, but became futile in their imaginations, and their foolish hearts were darkened.


casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,


And you have forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not despise the discipline from the Lord, nor grow weary when you are rebuked by Him;


“Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be zealous and repent.
