After about three months, it was told Judah, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has turned to prostitution, and what is more, as a result of prostitution she is pregnant.” Then Judah said, “Bring her forth, and let her be burned!”


The princes of the peoples have assembled as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted.


You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and subverts the words of the righteous.


Yet I had planted you a noble vine, a wholly faithful seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to Me?


But you trusted in your own beauty, and played the harlot because of your renown, and poured out your fornications on every willing passerby.


They will eat, but not be satisfied; they will play the whore, but not multiply, because they have forsaken the Lord by devoting themselves to


Swearing, lying, and killing, and stealing and adultery break out, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.


Like grapes in the wilderness, I found Israel. Like the first fruit on the fig tree in its first season, I saw your fathers. But they went to Baal-peor and consecrated themselves to a thing of shame, and they became an abomination like the thing they loved.


For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are grievous, you who oppress the just, who take a bribe and subvert the needy at the gate.


Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets practice divination for money. Yet upon the Lord they lean, saying, “Is not the Lord in our midst? Evil will not come upon us.”


Both hands are upon evil, to do it well. The prince and the judge request the bribe, the powerful asserts the craving of his very soul— they intertwine together.


You must not pervert judgment nor show partiality. You must not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.


But his sons did not walk in his way, for they followed after unlawful gain, and they took bribes, and they perverted justice.
