For the vineyard of the Lord of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah His pleasant plant. Thus He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; for righteousness, but behold, an outcry!


Swearing, lying, and killing, and stealing and adultery break out, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.


But like men they have transgressed the covenant. There they dealt faithlessly with Me.


You who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness down to the ground!


Can horses run on a rocky crag? Can one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,


For I see that you are bitterly envious and in the bond of iniquity.”


without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, calloused, and unmerciful,


lest there be among you a man or woman or family or tribe whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God to go and serve the gods of these nations, and lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous and bitter fruit;


The Lord said to Moses, “Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers. Then this people will rise up and begin to prostitute themselves after the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they are going to be among them, and will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.


Then My anger will burn against them on that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they will be devoured, and many disasters and troubles will befall them, so that they will say in that day, ‘Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not among us?’


without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, unrestrained, fierce, despisers of those who are good,


watching diligently so that no one falls short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness spring up to cause trouble, and many become defiled by it,
