Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David called upon the Lord. The Lord said, “There is blood guilt upon Saul and upon his house because he put the Gibeonites to death.”


The channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were exposed with the rebuke of the Lord, from the blast of breath from His nostrils.


Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear a report and return to his own land. Then I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.’ ”


I will say to God, Do not condemn me; show me why You contend with me.


One gives freely, and yet increases; another withholds what is due, but only suffers want.


Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.


All matters are wearisome. A person is not able to speak to them. The eye is not satisfied with what it sees, and the ear is not content with what it hears.


The grass withers, the flower fades because the Spirit of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass.


For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the homer of seed shall yield one ephah.


They have sown wheat, but reap thorns; they have strained themselves, but shall not profit. And they shall be ashamed of your harvest because of the fierce anger of the Lord.


I will pour out My indignation upon you; I will blow against you in the fire of My wrath, and deliver you into the hand of cruel men, skilled in destruction.


And in the fifth year you shall eat of the fruit that it may yield an increase to you: I am the Lord your God.


Is it time for you yourselves to live in paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?


You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes.


If you will not listen, and if you will not take it to heart to give honor to My name, says the Lord of Hosts, I will send a curse on you and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart.


You will carry a lot of seed out into the field but will gather but little in, for the locust will consume it.


“But I have something against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.


“Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be zealous and repent.
