Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, “For God,” he said, “has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s house.”


To Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath the daughter of Potiphera, the priest of On, bore to him.


So Joseph took them from beside his knees, and he bowed down with his face to the ground.


Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, crossing his hands, for Manasseh was the firstborn.


The sons of Joseph according to their families, by Manasseh and Ephraim, were:


He will set the sheep at His right hand, but the goats at the left.
