Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was the priest of God Most High.


Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-Paneah, and he gave him a wife, Asenath the daughter of Potiphera priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.


Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.


As for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt to the other end.


Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh; here is seed for you so you may sow the land.


So Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have one-fifth, except from the land of the priests, which did not become Pharaoh’s.


Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was in charge of the Kerethites and Pelethites. The sons of David were chief ministers.


Also we are informing you that with regard to all the priests, Levites, singers, doorkeepers, temple servants, or other servants of this house of God, it is not permitted to impose toll, tribute, or custom on them.


When I perceived that the supplies for the Levites had not been given and that the Levites and the singers doing the work had fled, everyone to his own field,


nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor shoes, nor even staffs. For the workman is worthy of his keep.


Do you not know that those who minister unto holy things live from the things of the temple? And do you not know that those who wait at the altar partake of the altar?


Let him who is taught in the word share all good things with him who teaches.


Take heed to yourself that you do not forsake the Levite as long as you live on the earth.


For when we were with you, we commanded you that if any will not work, neither shall he eat.


Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and teaching.
