The sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it, and the men were grieved and were very disturbed, because Shechem had disgraced Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing that should not be done.


They took their livestock and their possessions that they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and came to Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him.


These were the names of the sons of Israel, Jacob and his sons, who came to Egypt: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.


Israel also came to Egypt, and Jacob dwelt in the land of Ham.


For thus says the Lord God: My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there; then the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.
