He said, “Now let it also be according to your words. He with whom it is found shall be my slave, and you will be blameless.”


For your servant became surety for the boy to my father, saying, ‘If I fail to bring him to you, then I shall bear the blame to my father forever.’


For how can I go up to my father if the boy is not with me, lest perhaps I see the evil that would find my father?”


On seeing the angel who was striking down the people, David said to the Lord, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly. These sheep, what have they done? Please, let your hand be against me and against the house of my father.”


Yet now, if You will, forgive their sin, but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.”


For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers, my kinsmen by race,


Through this oath Jesus became the guarantor of a better covenant.


By this we know the love of God: that He laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
