18 The men were afraid because they were brought into Joseph’s house. They said, “We have been brought in because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, so that he may seek occasion against us and fall upon us and take us for slaves with our donkeys.”

Then they said one to another, “We are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded with us, but we would not listen. Therefore, this distress has come upon us.”


As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey feed in the lodging place, he saw his money. It was in the mouth of his sack.


And he said to his brothers, “My money has been returned. Here it is in my sack!” Then their hearts sank, and they were afraid, saying to one another, “What is this that God has done to us?”


As they emptied their sacks, behold, every man’s bundle of money was in his sack. When both they and their father saw the bundles of money, they were afraid.


The man did as Joseph ordered, so the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.


They approached the steward of Joseph’s house, and they spoke with him at the entrance of the house.


Behold, we brought back to you from the land of Canaan the money that we found in the top of our sacks. Why then would we steal silver or gold from your lord’s house?


A dreadful sound is in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come upon him.


They came upon me as a wide breach, with a crash they came; in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.


There they are, in great fear, where there is nothing to fear, for God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you; you have put them to shame, because God has rejected them.


When I thought how to understand this, it was troublesome in my sight,


It was said to the house of David, “Aram is allied with Ephraim.” Then his heart trembled and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood tremble with the wind.


Then the presidents and officials sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but they could find no occasion or fault, because he was faithful, nor was there any error or fault found in him.


But when Herod heard of it, he said, “It is John, whom I beheaded. He has been raised from the dead!”


But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law sin is dead.


and accuses her of impropriety and publicly defames her, saying, “I married this woman, but when I had sexual relations with her, I found her not to be a virgin,”


And behold, he has accused her of misconduct, saying, ‘I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.’ However, this is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity.” And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.


Manoah said to his wife, “We are certainly going to die, for we have seen God.”


His father and mother did not know that this was from the Lord, for He was seeking an opportunity to act against the Philistines. At that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.
