Now there was a famine in the land, so Abram went down to Egypt to live there, for the famine was severe in the land.


The seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. The famine was in all lands, but there was food in all the land of Egypt.


The famine was over all the face of the earth, so Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians, and the famine was severe throughout the land of Egypt.


Now when Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, Jacob said to his sons, “Why do you look at one another?”


Thus the sons of Israel came to buy grain among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.


Now Joseph was the governor over the land, and it was he who sold to all the people of the land. So Joseph’s brothers came and bowed themselves down before him with their faces to the ground.


Now the famine was severe in the land.


Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain that they bought, and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.


But as for you, you intended to harm me, but God intended it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many lives.


Otherwise, the land from which You brought us may say, ‘Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which He promised them and because He hated them, He has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.’
