1 Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, dwell there, and there make an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

From there he continued on to a mountain to the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.


And he said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from and where are you going?” And she said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”


Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.”


Then Jacob went on his journey and came into the land of the people of the east.


I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar, where you vowed a vow to Me. Now arise, and get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.’ ”


Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers, to your family, and I will be with you.”


But they said, “Should he treat our sister like a prostitute?”


So Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.


There he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, because God had appeared to him there when he fled from his brother.


God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.


He chose our heritage for us, the excellency of Jacob whom He loves.    Selah


He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.


Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, and he dwelt by a well.


He struggled with the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and sought favor from Him. He found Him in Bethel, and there He spoke with us.


Behold, on the mountains, the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace! Make your feasts, O Judah, and complete your vows. For the wicked one will never again pass through your midst; he is completely cut down.


For the Lord will judge His people, and relent in regard to His servants, when He sees that their power is gone and there is no one left, whether restrained or free.


“Then you will go forward from there, and you will come to the plain of Tabor. And there you will meet three men going up to God to Bethel: one carrying three kids, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine.
