Jacob sent messengers before him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.


He commanded them, saying, “This is what you must say to my lord Esau: This is what your servant Jacob says, ‘I have sojourned with Laban and stayed there until now.


But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are weak, and the flocks and herds with young are with me. If they are driven too hard one day, all the flock will die.


“And now, behold, the Ammonites and Moabites and Mount Seir, whom You did not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, when they turned away from them and did not destroy them,


He shall feed His flock like a shepherd; He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.


Thus says the Lord God: Because Moab and Seir say, “Behold, the house of Judah is like all the nations,”


With many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it.


We who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the weak and not please ourselves.


I have fed you with milk and not with solid food. For to this day you were not able to endure it. Nor are you able now,


Then we turned, and set out toward the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea, as the Lord spoke to me, and we circled Mount Seir for many days.


“Lord, when You went out from Seir, when You marched from the land of Edom, the ground shook and the skies poured, indeed, the dense clouds poured water.
