Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as his wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.


Now therefore, my son, listen to me and get up and flee to Laban, my brother in Harran.


Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram to take for himself a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You must not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan,”


Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac his father.


Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.


My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother;


The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley will pluck it out, and the young vultures will eat it.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.


“so that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
