Genesis 19:19 - Modern English Version

19 Behold, your servant has found grace in your eyes, and you have shown your mercy, which you have shown to me by saving my life. However, I cannot escape to the mountain. Otherwise some evil will overtake me, and I will die.

Then Lot said to them, “Please, no, my lords!


Behold, this city is close enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Please, let me escape there (is it not a little one?), and my life will be saved.”


Then Lot left Zoar, and lived in the mountains, along with his two daughters who were with him, for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave.


Joseph found favor in his sight and served him. So he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put under his charge.


But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.


And they will answer, ‘Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and took hold of other gods and have worshipped and served them. That is why the Lord has brought all this disaster upon them.’ ”


He answered, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”


Her neighbors and cousins heard how the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they rejoiced with her.


What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?


Then My anger will burn against them on that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they will be devoured, and many disasters and troubles will befall them, so that they will say in that day, ‘Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not among us?’


Then David said in his heart, “Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of continually seeking me within all the territory of Israel. So will I escape out of his hand.”
