14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place, for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.

When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here. Otherwise you will be consumed in the punishment of the city.”


When they had brought them out, one of them said to them, “Escape for your lives! Do not look behind you or stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountain, lest you be destroyed.”


Hurry, escape there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.


So the couriers ran from city to city in the land of Ephraim and Manasseh and up to Zebulun, but the people laughed at them and mocked them.


But they continued to jest regarding the messengers of God, despising His word and making fun of His prophets until the wrath of the Lord came up against His people, until there was no remedy.


Then he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, “Rise up, and get out from among my people, both you and the Israelites, and go, serve the Lord, as you have said.


But he that failed to regard the word of the Lord left his servants and his livestock in the field.


He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed without remedy.


Now therefore, do not continue as mockers, lest your bonds be made stronger; for I have heard from the Lord God of Hosts of determined destruction upon the whole earth.


O  Lord, You have deceived me and I was deceived; You are stronger than I and have prevailed. I am held in derision daily; everyone mocks me.


When Jeremiah had finished speaking to all the people all these words of the Lord their God, with which the Lord their God had sent him to them,


Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men said to Jeremiah, “You speak falsely. The Lord our God has not sent you to say, ‘Do not go into Egypt to sojourn there.’


Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and each of you deliver his soul! Do not be cut off in her punishment, for this is the time of the vengeance of the Lord; He will render to her a recompense.


Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! They say of me, ‘Does he not speak parables?’ ”


Separate yourselves from among this assembly, that I may consume them in a moment.


He spoke to the assembly, saying, “Depart now from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be swept away for all their sins.”


“Get up from among this assembly, that I may destroy them in a moment.” And they fell on their faces.


Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way: After His mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child by the Holy Spirit.


He said to them, “Depart. The girl is not dead, but is sleeping.” And they laughed Him to scorn.


But their words seemed like fables to them, and they did not believe them.


While he was coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and returned him to his father.


When they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some scoffed. But others said, “We will hear you again concerning this matter.”


When they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.
