1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them he rose up to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.

These are the generations of Terah. Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran, and Haran fathered Lot.


Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the valley and pitched his tent as far as Sodom.


Then the men rose up and looked toward Sodom, and Abraham went with them to see them on their way.


The men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.


But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them and shut the door.


Then he said, “Here, my lords, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night and wash your feet; and then you may rise early and go on your way.” They said, “No, we will stay in the open square all night.”


Then Abraham bowed before the people of the land.


So Joseph took them from beside his knees, and he bowed down with his face to the ground.


“When I went out to the gate of the city, when I took my seat in the square,


(the stranger has not lodged in the street, but I opened my doors to the traveler);


Those who sit in the gate speak against me, and I am the song of the drunkards.


“Likewise as it was in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built.


Do not forget to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unknowingly.


So Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. And behold, the redeemer, of whom he had spoken, passed by. So Boaz said, “Come over, friend, and sit here.” So he went over and sat down.
