Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you will not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah.


Then the man said, “Your name will no more be called Jacob, but Israel. For you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.”


Then Jacob asked Him, “Tell me, I pray You, Your name.” But He said, “Why do you ask Me My name?” Then He blessed him there.


God said to him, “Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be called Jacob any more, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel.


So He sent a word by way of the prophet Nathan that he should be named Jedidiah for the sake of the Lord.


“You are the Lord God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans. You gave him the name Abraham


You shall leave your name for a curse to My chosen ones; for the Lord God shall slay you, but My servants shall be called by another name;


On the next day Pashhur brought Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, The Lord has not called your name Pashhur, but “Magor-missabib.”


In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely. And this is the name by which he will be called: the lord our righteousness.


These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to explore the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.


Then he brought him to Jesus. When Jesus saw him, He said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter).


(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations” ) before God whom he believed, and who raises the dead, and calls those things that do not exist as though they did.


“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows except he who receives it.
