The man of God said to the king, “If you were to give me half your house, I would not go with you, nor will I eat bread, nor drink water in this place,


But he said, “As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will take no gift.” He urged him to take it, but he refused.


Then Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God said, “My master has spared Naaman the Aramean by not taking from his hands what he brought. As the Lord lives, I will run after him and take something from him.”


This is He who comes after me, who is preferred before me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”


I am ready to come to you this third time. And I will not be burdensome to you, for I do not seek what is yours but only you. For the children ought not to save up for the parents, but the parents for the children.


Let your lives be without love of money, and be content with the things you have. For He has said: “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.”
