Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word.


It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes.


And I said of frivolous fun, “They are only senseless ideas,” and regarding selfish pleasure, “What purpose is this?”


The heart of those who are wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of those who are foolish is in the house of feasting.


He said, “O man, greatly beloved, do not fear. Peace be unto you. Be strong and courageous!” When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”


Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.


Woe to you who are filled, for you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.


Our light affliction, which lasts but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,
