13 As it is written in the Law of Moses, great calamity has come on us. Yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God so that we might turn from our iniquities and give attention to Your truth.

Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants —all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read.


“But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath; they do not cry out when He binds them.


Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.


Make me understand the way of Your precepts, so shall I meditate on Your wondrous works.


Your hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.


Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your indignation toward us to cease.


Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel nor seek the Lord!


Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.


But you have not called upon Me, O Jacob; but you have been weary of Me, O Israel.


But we all are as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness is as filthy rags; and we all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.


There is no one who calls on Your name, who stirs up himself to take hold of You; for You have hidden Your face from us and have consumed us because of our iniquities.


For the people do not turn to Him who struck them, nor do they seek the Lord of Hosts.


In vain I have smitten your children; they received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.


All your lovers have forgotten you; they do not seek you; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, because of the multitude of your iniquities, because your sins are numerous.


I have surely heard Ephraim pleading: “You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as an untrained calf; turn me back and I will be turned, for you are the Lord my God.


Because you have burned incense and because you have sinned against the Lord and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, nor walked in His law, nor in His statutes, nor in His testimonies, therefore this calamity has happened to you, as it is this day.”


Behold, I will watch over them for disaster and not for good. And all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine until there is an end of them.


O  Lord, are not Your eyes upon the truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.


Restore us to Yourself, O  Lord, that we may return! Renew our days as of old,


Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have enraged Me in all these things, behold, I also will recompense your way upon your head, says the Lord God, so that you shall not commit this lewdness above all your other abominations.


Indeed, all Israel has transgressed Your law, even by departing that they might not obey Your voice. “Therefore the curse has been poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the Law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him.


The pride of Israel testifies against him, but they do not return to the Lord their God, nor seek Him for all this.


They do not cry to Me with their heart when they howl on their beds. They gather together for grain and wine, they rebel against Me.


They are all hot as an oven, and they devour their judges. All their kings have fallen, and none of them calls to Me.


Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.


If He called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came, and the Scripture cannot be broken,


It is written in the Prophets, ‘They shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and has learned of the Father comes to Me.


You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”


if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:


Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear.


If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally and without criticism, and it will be given to him.
