Then Mephibosheth the son of Saul went down to meet the king. He had neither dressed his feet nor trimmed his mustache, nor washed his clothes from the day the king left, until the day he came back in peace.


When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth on his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth and walked meekly.


During that night the king could not sleep, so he ordered that the book of memorable acts (the chronicles) be brought, and they were read before the king.


They take up the tambourine and harp and rejoice at the sound of the flute.


Upon the willows in the midst of it we hung our harps.


You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak.


I also gathered for myself silver and gold and precious possessions of kings and provinces. I acquired male and female singers, and the sensual delights of any human being, even a harem of many concubines.


They cut off my life in the pit and cast stones on me.


I ate no tasty food; no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all until three whole weeks were fulfilled.


And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams, and his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him.


Then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste to the den of lions.


The sound of harpists and musicians, flute players and trumpeters, shall not be heard in you any more. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you any more, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you any more.
