4 When he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled. For his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others besides them.

Surely every man walks around like a shadow; surely they make an uproar in vain; he heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them.


There is a person who is alone, having neither son nor brother; there is not an end to all his toil, and his eyes are not satisfied with riches. He asks, “For whom do I labor and cause my life to lack good things?” This also is vanity and a burdensome task.


It shall come to pass that after I have plucked them out, I will again have compassion on them, and will bring them back, every man to his inheritance, and every man to his land.


But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, says the Lord.


At one moment I may speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it.


The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields to the Kidron Valley, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, will be holy to the Lord. It will not be plucked up nor thrown down any more forever.


Thus you shall say to him, “Thus says the Lord: Behold, what I have built I will break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.


Upon Elam I will bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds. And there will be no nation where the outcasts of Elam will not go.


Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the wind; prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind: Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain so that they live.”


Daniel spoke and said: I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of the heaven were striving upon the Mediterranean Sea.


After this I looked, and behold, there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a fowl. The beast also had four heads. And dominion was given to it.


I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another little horn before whom three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.


Now the broken horn and the four horns that stood up in its place are four kingdoms that shall stand up out of his nation, but not with his power.


Therefore the male goat grew very great. And when he was strong, the great horn was broken, and four conspicuous horns came up in its place toward the four winds of heaven.


Up, up, flee from the northern land, says the Lord, for I have spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven, says the Lord.


The angel responded, “These are the four winds of heaven going out after standing before the Lord of all the earth.


Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. And every city or house divided against itself will not stand.


“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This night your soul will be required of you. Then whose will those things be which you have provided?’


Then I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind would not blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree.
