7 I also withheld the rain from you, when there were still three months to the harvest. I would send rain on one town, and send no rain on another town. One field would receive rain, but another field without rain would wither.

So Moses stretched forth his hand toward the heavens, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.


They did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the Israelites had light in their dwellings.


“ ‘I will in that day set apart the land of Goshen, in which My people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, in order that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.


Only in the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were, was there no hail.


The Lord shall separate between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, and nothing shall die of all that belongs to the Israelites.’ ”


And I will lay it waste: It shall not be pruned or dug, but briers and thorns shall come up. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.


Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Is it not You, O  Lord our God? Therefore, we will wait upon You, for You have done all these things.


Their nobles have sent their servants for water; they came to the cisterns and found no water. They returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and humiliated, and covered their heads.


Because the ground is chapped, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed; they have covered their heads.


Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no latter rain. And you had a harlot’s forehead; you refused to be ashamed.


And children of Zion, exult and rejoice in the Lord your God, because He has given to you the early rain for vindication. He showers down rains for you, the early rain and the latter rain, as before.


And it will happen that if any of the families of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, then there will not be rain for them.


Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Listen! I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest.


For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you received it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?


Then the Lord’s wrath will be inflamed against you, and He will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain and the land will not yield its fruit, and you will quickly perish from the good land which the Lord is giving you.


Elijah was a man subject to natural passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.


They have power to shut heaven, that it may not rain during the days of their prophecy. They have power over waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every plague as often as they desire.
