After they had long abstained from food, Paul stood in their midst and said, “Men, you should have listened to me and not have set sail from Crete, incurring this injury and loss.


From there we put out to sea and sailed under the leeward side of Cyprus, because the winds were against us.


One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons!”


For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city, as I commanded you:
